Florida is very rich in history, but the public is largely unaware of it.  Just west of Jupiter in River Bend County Park archeologists have found evidence of Indian villages that go back perhaps 5,000 years, later this would be the site of a Seminole Indian village.  Following that would be pioneer homesteads and an orange grove that would give Indian River Citrus its name.  Of more immediate interest to us is the fact that the portion of the park now officially named the Loxahatchee Battlefield Park is the site of Powell's Battle and Jesup's Battle, the last two standing battles of the Second Seminole Indian War.

Much of this history has been forgotten or ignored.  The Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists are determined to preserve this history for ourselves and future generations.  You can be a part of this effort by becoming a member of the organization.  There are two levels of membership: Individual membership for $20.00 annually or Family Membership for $30.00 annually.  Family membership includes all children under eighteen that are living with you.  Membership runs from January 1 through December 31.  For those joining after July 1 there is a six month membership available for $10.00 for an individual or $15.00 for a family.

You can be a part of preserving this history by joining us and becoming a fellow member.  Just click here for a printable membership application.  Fill out the form and send it along with a check in the appropriate amount to the address shown on the form.
